Discover the Art of Pensacola - Music
While Pensacola, Florida seems like a charming, quaint city, when it comes to arts and entertainment, Pensacola knows how to make a scene. The city hosts all sorts of cultural experiences in its historic downtown core.
Visitors have the opportunity to experience and appreciate more than just the renowned white-sand beaches here. If you want to explore some of Pensacola’s arts, go to a musical performance, catch a theater show, admire the dancing, listen to live music, or visit some of the galleries in the area.
Musical Masters
Pensacola-based musicians produce some of the most incredible music pieces with a unique southern flair. If you’re visiting in the early to late springtime, catch one of the annual performances of the Pensacola Opera. The Pensacola Opera is a professional, regional opera company that produces two to three mainstage productions each season. These performances feature nationally known opera stars and include collaborations with the Pensacola Ballet, Pensacola Museum of Art, Pensacola Symphony, and Pensacola Children’s Chorus, among others.
You can also check out one of the events offered by the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra. The Pensacola Symphony Orchestra offers a ton of concerts and events for families, children, and symphonic fans. Some of their past performances include tributes to movies and modern-day musical movers. Even if you can’t attend one of their full concerts, you can attend a dress rehearsal.
Both the Pensacola Opera and the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra perform at the Saenger Theatre in Downtown Pensacola. The Theatre recently went under a $15 million expansion and renovation, and attracts renowned musical groups and Broadway musicals throughout the year. And if you’re a fan of live music, you’ll have to come to visit during summer and Christmas time, as the Pensacola Children’s Chorus concerts ring out at the Saenger Theatre.
Music & Dancing
You can find the combined arts of music and dance throughout the year at Pensacola Little Theatre, Ballet Pensacola, and the UWF’s Center for Fine and Performing Arts.
The Pensacola Little Theatre was founded in 1936 and is a non-profit community organization that provides theatrical experiences that entertain and educate both children and adults who live in and visit Pensacola.
Ballet Pensacola is another non-profit organization whose mission has been to enhance the cultural life of the community for over 28 years. Ballet Pensacola aims to teach the community an appreciation and knowledge of dance through both dance training and performances. They offer dance classes for ages 3 through adulthood.
The UWF’s Center for Fine and Performing Arts (CFPA) was built in 1991 and is home to the Departments of Music, Art, and Theatre. The CFPA not only showcases the work of UWF students, but it also works with the three departments to bring in artists from around the world for the enjoyment and artistic development of the Northwest Florida community.
